
A $6 million dollar Water Pollution Control project initiated by the Newton City Council in October 2022 is now finished, according to the city’s Utilities Department. Woodruff Construction, Inc. of Ames completed the work at the Water Pollution Control Treatment Plant and the Southwest Pump Station for $6,012,468.
The improvements at the Water Pollution Control Treatment Plant included a new 1 million gallon liquid sludge storage tank, a new standby power generator, rehabilitation of three existing floating steel digester covers, the replacement of two sludge pumps, a new influent channel mixing system and other associated work.
The Southwest Pump Station had 150-hp and 200-hp pumps replaced, new pump station interior dry well piping was installed, and associated site, demolition, electrical, and mechanical work was done.
