A Jefferson Intermediate School student is the overall winner of the annual American Legion Post 89 Flag Essay Contest.

Lily Heesch was 1st place among all who submitted essays for awards from both the Pella and Pella Christian School Districts. American Legion Post 89 encourages those from both schools to write essays about the U.S. Flag in conjunction with social studies lessons. The 2nd and 3rd place winners both attend Pella Christian Grade School, and will be announced next week on KNIA/KRLS.
