The Legacy Plaza Greenspace, created by the City of Newton and Des Moines Area Community College, will be receiving additional improvements in the not-to-distant future. This spring, Newton DMACC Campus Executive Dean Bill Peters says work will begin on adding a pavilion to it.
“It’s going to have an actual ice-skating rink inside of it during the winter, which was donated by the Iowa Wild. Then, during the summer, we can host events there, whether it be for the Farmer’s Market or concerts or whatever.”
Peters says the largest arc that goes over the top of the sculpture in the greenspace still needs to be added, as well as the lights that will illuminate the sculpture at night. That’s to be completed in late March or early April. The Newton DMACC Campus Executive Dean refers to Legacy Plaza as a real usable, community-friendly space that makes the college a little homier.
