The Jasper County Board of Supervisors held a 40-minute public hearing on the county’s Fiscal Year 2027 Five-Year Road Program Tuesday night, with three people in attendance. County Engineer Mike Frietsch says the first year of the program is the most significant, as it lists the planned projects to be put out for bid between July 1st, 2026 and June 30, 2027. That first year, he scheduled two bridge replacements.

“The bridge that carries North 23rd Avenue West over Cherry Creek. It will be let through the state and be a contractor bridge. It’s probably going to be a 200-foot span bridge. The bridge that’s on East 84th Street South over Prairie Creek will be a 50-footer that will be let locally, as we will be building that ourselves with our in-house bridge crew.”

Surface improvements on West 76th Street North, North 95th Avenue West, West 129th Street South, and South 102nd Avenue West are included in the first year of the program. Also in the initial year is resurfacing on County Highway F-62 West from Reasnor to Iowa Highway 14, and four miles of pavement maintenance on Highway F-17 West from Baxter east.
