
Central Basketball Teams Split Overtime Contest Against Buena Vista
A combined three overtimes were needed in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium Saturday night as the Central College basketball teams split with Buena Vista in a doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Dutch men held off the Beavers for a 93-91 victory in double overtime, while the Central women fell 70-63 in overtime.
The Central (10-8, 3-6 American Rivers Conference) and Buena Vista men had 18 lead changes and were tied 18 times over the course of 50 minutes. The victory marks Central’s first double overtime win since 2012, and their first home double overtime victory dating back to the 1964-65 season. Anthony Gott had 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Owen Schipper had 26 points and 14 rebounds to give the Dutch two players with double-doubles. Braylon Thomsen added 17 more points.
In the women’s game, Central (7-11, 2-7 American Rivers Conference) fell behind 11-0 five minutes into the game, but rallied to lead by as much as 10 in the fourth quarter. Buena Vista came back to send the game into the extra period, and controlled overtime by outscoring the Dutch 14-7. CeCe Moore led Central with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Maddie Backer added 12 points and six rebounds. McKenzie Snook also reached double figures with 11 points.
Central hosts Nebraska Wesleyan University on Wednesday for a doubleheader at 5:30 pm.

Dutch Men Go 2-1 at Conference Wrestling Dual Meet
The Central College men’s wrestling team cruised to a pair of American Rivers Conference dual victories Saturday after falling in its opener at the American Rivers Conference dual pod hosted by the University of Dubuque.
The Dutch (12-4, 4-1 conference) were downed 35-9 by #1 Wartburg in their first match but followed it up with a 31-10 win over Dubuque and a 42-7 thrashing of Buena Vista. Cade Siebrecht was the lone athlete to go 3-0 for the Dutch. Ranked #10 in Division III, he defeated #9 Caleb Olson of Wartburg in sudden victory. He ousted Dubuque’s Ashton Hayhurst and pinned Ben Bouaphaeko of Buena Vista at the 1:45 mark of the first period.
Central travels to Loras College for an American Rivers Conference dual Thursday in Dubuque.

Central Women Fifth at League Wrestling Championships
Serving as host for the 2026 American Rivers Conference Women’s Wrestling Championships, Central College finished in fifth place Saturday.
Central tallied 47 points, while Wartburg College ran away with the title at 173.5 points. Senior Esther Belzer led the Dutch with a fifth-place effort at 138 pounds. She capped a 2-2 day with a 2-0 decision against Lily McMacon of Simpson College. She had a 12-1 technical fall victory earlier in consolation rounds against Grace Patterson of Loras College. Julia Kanne had a 10-0 technical fall victory against Luther College’s Lexi Timmerman in her first round bout, before finishing in sixth place. Sophomore Madilyn Rowson ended her day strong with a 13-0 technical fall over Lydia Virtue of the University of Dubuque in the seventh-place match. Alondra Alvarez Chavez also had a 15-2 technical fall against Dubuque’s Brianna Seixas in a consolation match, en route to an eighth-place finish.
Central travels to Dubuque for the Loras Open next Saturday at 9 am.
