The Newton boys and girls basketball teams will be at Dallas Center-Grimes High School tonight to start the second half of the Little Hawkeye Conference Season. 

The Cardinal boys are 5-7 overall and 0-5 in the conference, and will look to avenge their 84-39 home loss to the Mustangs back on December 12th. Newton trailed 17-8 at the end of the first quarter and was down by 21 points at halftime. Dallas Center-Grimes made 31 of 39 field goal attempts, and was led in scoring by Chase Perrin with a game-high 30 points. Newton’s leading scorer was Isaiah Slaughter with 12 points.

The Cardinal girls, who are 8-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play, lost to the #4 Mustangs 49-25 in their first meeting. Newton was limited to nine points at halftime, while Dallas Center-Grimes had 33 points. Both teams’ field goal percentage was around 33%, but the Cardinals had 15 more turnovers than the Mustangs.
