The Indianola basketball teams swept Oskaloosa Tuesday night. The girls won 52-22 and the boys won 41-28 in a gritty, defensive battle.
In the girls game, it was a defensive clinic from Indianola. The Indians weren’t giving anything easy to Oskaloosa’s offense, as they were able to capitalize on a couple of takeaways as well. Junior Madison Grover ended the first quarter with six points, and Indianola had a 14-2 lead.
In the second quarter, both teams were not able to get much of an offensive rhythm going as Oskaloosa and Indianola were stagnant for much of the quarter. Eventually, Alexa Guyer nailed a three along to go with a Julia McGraw two to boost Indianola 25-4 lead at half.
The three point shooting became hot for Indianola as they hit three back-to-back-to-back triples including two from Lauren Olson. McGraw hit another three in the fourth and lifted Indianola to a 52-22 victory with 13 points in the game.
The boys game was physical, low-scoring and scrappy from beginning to end. Indianola Senior Guard Bryant Richie led the way for the Indians in the first with nine points.
In the second, it was a defensive slugfest with a lid on the basket. The first points of the quarter didn’t come until roughly four minutes in. Breaking the ice was Easton McGraw, who had all four points for the Indians in the second quarter. It was 19-12 Indianola at halftime.
Points continued to be hard to come by in the third quarter, as the offenses were stagnant. Jackson Faust knocked down two left corner threes to lift Indianola to victory 41-28.
The Indianola girls team improved to 11-4 and extended their win streak to six. Meanwhile, the men improved to 7-5 and both teams face away home matchups with Norwalk Friday. Those games can be heard on 94.3 KNIA with pregame coverage scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
