Central College student-athletes Owen Schipper and Peyton Steffen earned American Rivers Conference Player of the Week honors in their respective sports.

In the Dutch men’s basketball team’s two overtime wins against Coe and Buena Vista, Schipper recorded a double-double in both games. Against Coe, Schipper played 43 minutes and put up 18 points while shooting 50% (4-8) from the field and 43% (3-7) from beyond the arc. To go along with his 18 points, he recorded a team-high 14 rebounds. Schipper followed up that performance by playing 47 minutes against Buena Vista and recording 26 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists. Schipper and Central will look to extend their winning streak to four consecutive games against Nebraska Wesleyan University on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.

Steffen traveled to Ames with the Dutch women’s track and field team on Friday to compete in the Cyclone Open at Iowa State University, where she competed in both the mile and the 1,000 meters (1K). In the mile, Steffen finished runner-up with a time of 4 minutes, 55.68 seconds, moving her up to #4 in the national rankings. In the 1,000 meters, Steffen broke her own school record with a time of 2:56.58, which resulted in a seventh-place finish. Central’s indoor track and field season continues with the Dutch Winter Multi Meet on Friday and the Grinnell Invitational on Saturday.
