The Marion County Commission of Veterans Affairs new satellite office in Pella is open for the first time today.
The office, located in the Pella Memorial Building boardroom, will be open on the last Friday of the month from 8 am to 4 pm on a trial basis. The Veteran Service Officer will have full online access to Veterans Affairs systems to assist with connecting veterans to their VA benefits. This office will mirror the hours, capabilities, and phone number of the regular Marion County Courthouse office in Knoxville. Executive Director of Marion County Commission of Veteran Affairs Rob Bandstra says that one of the goals of the satellite office is to help make it easier for veterans in Pella to connect to their VA benefits.
“What I’ve found is that there’s just a ton of veterans who work in the Pella area at the industries there, and it’s impossible for them to come to Knoxville and do business with their VA benefits over their lunch break. So, we want to open up that office on the last Friday of the month to make it accessible for the Pella area so they don’t have to cross the dam or cross the lake and spend 20 minutes going back and forth.”
Appointments are not required, but those wanting to secure a time and minimize waiting can schedule one by calling Bandstra at (641) 828-2201.
