
The Newton boys and girls basketball teams take on the Dutch in Pella tonight.
The Cardinal boys are 5-8 overall, and are still searching for their first conference win six games into league play. They lost to Pella at home on December 19th, 72-44. The Dutch made 51-percent of their shots and turned a 3-point halftime lead into a 28-point win by outscoring Newton in the second half 48-to-23. Dawson Maki was the only Cardinal to reach double-figures with 16 points.
The Newton girls also lost to Pella in December, 53-23. The Dutch were up 12-6 after the first quarter, and took a 32-8 lead into the locker room. The Cardinals were outscored 21-to-12 the rest of the game. Two sophomores led Newton in scoring, as Camryn Klein had six points and Addyson Cibula five. The Newton girls are 2-5 in the Little Hawkeye Conference and 8-6 overall.
