A 204-page document containing the final plans and specifications for the third and final phase of the County Highway F-48 West resurfacing project has been approved by the Jasper County Board of Supervisors. Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch expects the road work between Colfax and the Polk County line to be completed this fall.
“We are going to have an April 21st letting as it stands right now. I think they will have a late start date somewhere in the middle or end of June. I would expect the project to be done sometime in October.”
The resurfacing project includes the relocation of the first curve east of the Polk/Jasper County line, and replacing the bridge by that curve with two box culverts. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors approved a federal aid agreement for most of the funding for phase three with the Iowa Department of Transportation in March of last year. Frietsch says that $2.1 million in federal funding for the 5.3 miles of resurfacing is through the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program.
