Marion County Public Health held their monthly providers meeting on Monday.
The meeting provides healthcare and community organizations an opportunity to inform attendees of updates within their organizations so they can help share those resources. There is a presenter at each meeting, and on Monday the presenters were staff members of Compassus Hospice. The presenters spoke about their organization specifically, what hospice care is, how to become a volunteer, and ways they support their clients. Sarah Gertsen with Compassus says that one of the most important aspects of hospice care is that support is available 24/7.
“Hospice services are provided wherever a patient calls home so that can be their house or facility, any place they call home. One of the most important aspects of hospice care is that support is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Hospice teams are on call to address urgent needs, symptom changes, and family concerns. This means patients and families have direct access to clinical guidance and support without having to call 911 or go to the emergency room.”
The providers meetings are held the first Monday of every month.
