
A dominant stretch in the middle weights paved the way for the Central College men’s wrestling team in a 34-15 win over Luther College Tuesday night.
Carter West began the match with a fall with just 19 seconds remaining in the at 125 pound bout. Pierre Baldwin then started a four-match winning streak at 141 pounds, earning a 20-3 technical fall, which Cade Siebrecht followed with an 18-2 technical fall at 149 pounds. Christian Stanek continued the run with a 7-3 decision at 157 pounds to send the match into intermission with the Dutch up 19-3. After the break, Luther elected to move their two highest rated wrestlers up a weight class each from 165 and 174 pounds to 174 and 184 pounds. Freshman Shane Hanford took advantage and used a headlock for a pin at 165 pounds. The Norse narrowed the margin to 25-15 heading into the 197-pound match, where Sam West won an 8-3 decision. Jamal Neeway put an exclamation point on a loud night in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium with a third pin for Central at 285 pounds.
Central has its final dual next Thursday at Simpson College.
