A Kentucky man has been sentenced to 25-years in prison for depriving a Jasper County woman over the age of 80 out of over $669,250 in assets.

The case against forty-one-year-old SanJeev Kumar of Owensboro, Kentucky was filed by the Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau. Kumar and his associates allegedly committed fraudulent acts between March and early July of last year, illegally obtaining assets from the victim. He was arrested along with a Chicago man on July 9th, 2025. They were taken into custody while attempting to pick up $248,000 in gold from the rural Grinnell woman.

Kumar pleaded guilty to a class B felony charge of facilitating a criminal network. Two additional counts of that charge, and a class D felony count of conspiring to commit a non-forcible felony were dismissed in a plea agreement accepted by District Court Judge Nicholas Bailey. A Restitution Hearing in Kumar’s case has been set for March 16th. The Chicago man who drove Kumar to the victim to get the gold was placed on probation for one year, and was ordered to pay a $430 civil penalty. Jasper County Attorney Scott Nicholson says Hussin Ahmadbin had little knowledge of what was taking place, and pleaded guilty to one count of 4th degree theft, a serious misdemeanor.
