Two Indianola girls wrestlers have qualified for this year’s state tournament and are both the top seed in their respective brackets. At 100lbs, Nora Ohnemus comes into the tournament at 36-0 and begins her competition against Waverly-Shell Rock’s Amri Schwartz. Defending state champion, Siera Becker will compete at 105lbs and comes in with a 24-1 record. Becker takes on Mason City’s Ali Robbins who is 36-20 on the year. Both Ohnemus and Becker are confident and appreciate the coaching staff’s preparation coming into this year’s tournament.
“I’d say that they’ve helped us with our training and our technique, especially strength wise. They’ve helped us be the best we can be on and off the mat. The coaches have helped me majorly. They’ve helped me a lot with my mental state, because I used to not be confident. Now, they have prepared me to be confident.
Action from the state girls’ wrestling meet begins at 4:30 p.m. today.
