Trained volunteers with Jasper County RSVP began meeting with income-qualified taxpayers on Tuesday, as the organization’s annual Free Income Tax Preparation Program got underway. Jasper County RSVP Director Sarah Patterson says last year, the program had 199 new clients among the 656 people they filled out income taxes for. There are some limitations to qualifying for the free filing assistance.

“This year’s threshold is $68,675 and below; no farm income and no rental income. Then we will do your taxes. We do have a guy that specializes in military returns, which I hear are a little bit trickier. So for veterans out there, we can help you.”

Patterson says appointments for the free voluntary income tax filing assistance should be made through Jasper County’s Iowa State University Extension Office. Appointments are scheduled for DMACC in Newton, the Colfax Library, and The Gathering Place in Monroe.
