Two Knoxville Girls Wrestlers will go for state glory starting today as Serenity Turner and Mariah Ripperger will start their State Meets today at the Xtreme Arena in Coralville. Tuner will take on Alyssa Sheets of Oskaloosa in a 1st round match. Turner, the four seed tells KNIA/KRLS Sheets is her club teammate in Oskaloosa and knows her very well and is confident about the matchup.

Turner: “I go to club in Osky so her head coach is my head coach in club so he has to coach against me and for her so it’s kind of ironic. But I’ve beaten her in the 1st period most of the times we’ve wrestled so I’m pretty confident about it.”

Ripperger is the 6th seed at 235 pounds and will take on Gracelyn McCarthy of Western Dubuque. Ripperger says she does not know a lot about her 1st round opponent and is taking the approach of taking her 1st state appearance in and just performing on the mat.

Ripperger : “I don’t think I’m really nervous for any competition because the Ottumwa girl I beat at regionals was seeded 2nd. I think you learn a lot more from a loss than you do winning, so I’m excited to see what I can do this year.”
