The Newton boys wrestling team went 2-0 in duals at South Tama County High School on Thursday, and Kent Montgomery got his 100th match win in the process. 

The Cardinals defeated BCLUW-SH 72-11, winning eight of ten contested matches. Newton’s 47-27 win over host South Tama County featured nine wins in fourteen contested weight classes.

Wins in both duals for Newton came from Trevor Van Kley (106 pounds), Sebastian Sorenson (144 pounds), Zach Sheffield (190 pounds), Nick Milburn (215 pounds), and Coleby Revell (285 pounds). Wyatt Archibald (113 pounds), Zander Robson (132 pounds), and Asher Rhoads (175 pounds) went 1-1 in their matches. Kent Montgomery (120 pounds), Aiden Robson (150 pounds), and Lane Rozendaal had only contested matches against South Tama and won. Montgomery’s win by fall was the 100th match victory of his career. 

The Newton boys wrestling team will next compete on Saturday, February 14th at the Class 3A District 6 Wrestling Meet at Iowa City High School.
