The second-ranked Indianola boys wrestling team finished as runner-ups in back-to-back seasons at the State Duals Tournament in Coralville Saturday.

The Indians began the day with Linn-Mar and won the match handily 46-24. Indianola began the day ahead 12-0 with quick pins from lightweights Chandler Brown and Cain Crossan. Other falls came from Hayden Wessell at 126lbs, Elijah Blewitt at 150lbs and Zach O’Meara at 215lbs.

In the next matchup, Indianola squared off with third-seeded Waukee Northwest. Again, Indianola took an early lead with pins from Brown and Crossan and followed by Nolan Freeman at 138lbs. Indianola had a sizable lead but diminished as Waukee Northwest’s heavier weights kept the Wolves within striking distance. In the end, it came down to the 285lbs Aiden Curtis for the Indians. All he had to do was avoid pin and he did. Indianola snuck past Waukee Northwest 33-32.

In the finals match with Southeast Polk, the Rams picked up a technical fall in the 106lbs matchup, but then 113lbs Indianola wrestler Cain Crossan answers back with a 40 second pin to give Indianola an early advantage 6-5. However, Southeast Polk won the next nine matches to set themselves up for victory at 57-11.

The Indians grab the second place trophy after an incredible effort for a second year in a row.
