The potential future sale or ownership transfer of the Emerson Hough Elementary school will be the focus of some discussion at tonight’s Newton School Board meeting. Emerson Hough and Woodrow Wilson Elementary will not be needed as school buildings next school year, due to the additions and renovations at the Aurora Heights and Thomas Jefferson Elementary buildings.

This evening, Newton School Board members are scheduled to discuss questions they want to ask the District’s law firm of Ahlers and Cooney in Des Moines, about the potential disposition process. A meeting with the Ahlers and Cooney attorneys is planned for Tuesday. The school board agenda also includes an update on the current legislative session by Superintendent Tom Messinger.

Tonight’s Newton School Board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the EJH Beard Administration Center at 1302 First Avenue West.
