Work is progressing on the open-air shelter that’s being built at Newton’s Westwood Golf Course. The framing is up on the 16’ x 24’ shelter that’s just south of the clubhouse’s east doors, next to the concrete patio. Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler says the open-air shelters on the Newton DMACC Campus, by the ISU Extension gardens, were from the same company that provided the kit for the clubhouse shelter. It was purchased in December from Legacy Post and Beam of Fremont, Nebraska for $19,206.
But the cost of the project, including concrete, is $27,531. Muckler says a donation from Gregg Young Auto Center in Newton, and bond revenue will pay for the shelter’s construction.
