The Newton School Board has assembled some questions they want the district’s law firm to answer with regard to the potential future sale or ownership transfer of the Emerson Hough Elementary school. The questions were gathered from school board members last night, during their regularly scheduled meeting. Emerson Hough and Woodrow Wilson Elementary schools are not going to be used as school buildings next school year, due to the additions and renovations at the Aurora Heights and Thomas Jefferson Elementary buildings. School Board Member Travis Padget has some questions he would like answered.
“I would like to know about the inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. How that affects any decisions we make, and what we are and are not beholden to because of that. And if there are significant restrictions because of that inclusion, if there is a way to change that inclusion later.”
That question, and some others that board members have, will be posed to the District’s law firm of Ahlers and Cooney in Des Moines this week.
The Newton School Board members were also given an update last night, on education related legislation that’s been brought up this current legislative session. That update was provided by Superintendent Tom Messinger.
