
A Newton woman accused of attacking a man with a stun gun in Newton last Friday night is free on a $9,000 bond. According to Newton Police Chief Rob Burdess, 67-year-old Debra Ruth Moore had threatened to kill the victim, and purposely took the stun device to a South Third Avenue East residence to use it on him. Burdess says the man did sustain burn marks on his body. The assault reportedly happened just before 11 p.m. Friday night. Moore posted her bond Monday morning when District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda also appointed a public defender to represent her. .
The charges the Newton Police Department filed against Moore include going armed with intent, a class D felony, and two aggravated misdemeanor charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and first-degree harassment.
