Annelise Obermark and Keeley Kehrli each repeated as champions to lead the Simpson College women’s wrestling team to a third-place finish at the Quad Cities Division III Invite this weekend.
Both Obermark and Kehrli went a perfect 5-0 on the weekend, successfully defending their titles from a year ago. Sarah Zimmerman added a top-three finish at 110 pounds with a 6-1 record, while three Storm wrestlers placed fifth, two finished sixth, and one earned seventh.
No. 18 Simpson tallied 158.0 team points to finish third behind No. 1 North Central (188.5) and No. 8 Wartburg (185.0).
Individual Highlights
- Obermark began her championship run with two 10-0 technical falls and a quick pin over Elise Ashland of Augsburg in just 45 seconds. She followed with a shutout of Brooke Schuenemann (Wis.-Stevens Point) in the semifinals before claiming the championship with a 12-2 victory over No. 10 Aniyah Kelly (Wartburg).
- Kehrli extended her win streak to 24 matches on the strength of two pins, two technical falls, and a 5-0 decision over North Central’s Elizabeth Rosenstiel in the championship bout. Her pins came in just 21 and 54 seconds, pushing her season total to 15 falls, nine of which have come in under a minute.
- Zimmerman rebounded from an early setback to finish third, avenging a quarterfinal loss to Gabriella Motz (Albion) with a narrow 12-11 decision in the third-place match. She totaled three technical falls, two pins, and a forfeit over the course of the tournament.
- Layla Phillips, Paige Gershmel, and Jenna Joseph each turned in five-win performances to earn fifth-place finishes.
