The Central College men’s and women’s track & field teams had three athletes recognized with four weekly awards from the American Rivers Conference for their performances in both the Wartburg Indoor Select and the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Senior Olivia Bohlen led the way, winning both Female Athlete of the Week and Women’s Field Performer of the Week. The two-time All-American competed in the women’s pentathlon at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, where she was the sole Division III entry in the field. Bohlen totaled 3,592 points in the meet, which broke the Central school record that had stood since 1979, and gave her the top qualifying total in the country.
Ava Parkins competed in the Wartburg Indoor Select, where she was dominant in both the 400-meter dash and 4×400 meter relay. Parkins was awarded Women’s Track Performer of the Week, after winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.94 seconds, which also marked the first time a woman runner had gone under 57 seconds for Central in the event. She also contributed to the 4×400 meter relay team setting a new school record time of 3:49.85, which also currently ranks #1 in Division III.
Kale Purcell caps off the list, winning Men’s Field Performer of the Week. Purcell also set a Central College program record in the men’s triple jump, where he recorded a leap of 49 feet, 0.75 inches to win the event at the Wartburg Indoor Select.
