The Jasper County Board of Supervisors have finally approved the final payment for phase one of the Highway F-48 resurfacing, from Newton to the South Skunk River bridge. The 5.8-mile project was completed in August 2024, but several issues came up while it was underway. Nicole Williams, the Assistant to Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch, told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday that all the problems have now been resolved.
“There were some design errors on Snyder and Associates’ part. Things that were missed in some way or another that we did get corrected for phase two. Phase two went a lot smoother, not as many change orders and things like that. In the end, everyone has agreed on quantities and the DOT is ready to close this project on their end and that’s all this does.”
Manatt’s was the contractor for phase one. InRoads LLC won the bid for phase two with a quote of $2.55 million. That 3.1 mile project resurfaced the highway from Iowa Highway 117 in Colfax, east to the bridge just south of Interstate 80. Phase three is 5.3 miles from Colfax to Polk County. That work is expected to begin in June, and be completed in October.
