It took a late rally for the girls and holding off a charge for the boys as the Pella basketball teams earned a narrow sweep of Indianola on the road Friday, heard live on the KRLS2 stream.

The Dutch girls rallied for a 52-49 win and the #4 in 3A Pella boys won 66-62 over the Indians. Pella’s girls fell behind by 10 early in the 3rd quarter and answered with a 10-0 run. They finally took a lead halfway through the 4th quarter and built a six-point advantage in the final minutes. Avery Parks and Emma Walkup each scored 18 points and Julia Settles added eight points and seven rebounds in the effort.

In the nightcap, the teams tied or traded the lead 23 times and neither led by more than seven points throughout the duration. Pella pulled ahead with their own rally in the 3rd quarter to erase a six-point deficit and took their own six-point lead in the final minutes. The Dutch held on despite several made buckets and chances from offensive rebounds for the home team Indians in the last minute of the contest.

Pella’s girls have won five games in a row and improve to 12-8 overall; the Dutch boys are up to 16-3 overall and remain in a tie for the lead in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Dutch basketball teams are next in action for the final doubleheader of the winter at home and for senior night celebrations against Dallas Center-Grimes.
