Today is the first day the public can see the 4-inch by 4-inch canvases that were painted and decorated for the Newton Public Library’s Annual Tiny Art Show Fundraiser. The small pieces of art will be on display at the library through the night of Thursday, February 26th, when they will be auctioned off. The silent auction that evening will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Newton Public Library. Public Services Librarian Rebecca Klein says most years they’ve had just under 100 pieces of tiny art to sell, with proceeds from the auction going to support the many programs at the library.
“We have programs for all ages, children, teenagers, and adults. So these funds could go to things like our children’s summer reading program, and they could go to adult programs like our arts and crafts program. We have painting classes and watercolor classes.”
As part of the annual fundraiser, anyone was allowed to pick up the tiny canvases at the library to paint or decorate some other way. They were to be returned to the Newton Public Library this past Monday.
