The Pella Christian basketball teams wrap up regular season and Little Hawkeye Conference action tonight, traveling to Indianola for their final doubleheader of the winter.
The Eagles and Indians first met this season on January 16th, and Indianola swept the twin bill with the girls winning 42-28 and the boys claiming a 71-49 victory. In the first meeting, the Indians’ girls squad used a 24-11 second half to pull away for the win, while the Indianola boys used a 23-point second quarter and a 29-point fourth quarter to down the Eagles. In addition to trying to avoid the season sweep, Pella Christian boys basketball coach Joe Steinkamp says they are also looking to build momentum ahead of postseason play beginning next week.
“We played them pretty good in the first half, but that was one of the games that kind of got away from us in the second half. They’ve got a couple really good scores. We’re just gonna play it just like a normal game, even though the brackets are out. We just want to be in a good spot going into the postseason and feel like we’re playing good ball, because we feel like we have a team that could make a run in postseason play.”
The Pella Christian perspective of tonight’s doubleheader can be found on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 5:45 pm.
