Marion County Emergency Management is emphasizing the importance of using caution while doing burns this time of year.

Vegetation is still extremely dry and it does not take long for a simple burn to get out of hand quickly, especially with spring winds. Marion County Emergency Management says if someone does decide to burn, they should check local burn regulations, avoid windy days, keep water and tools nearby, never leave the fire unattended, and make sure it is completely out before walking away. Those planning on controlled burns should notify the Marion County Sheriff’s Office before burning, as it helps prevent unnecessary 911 calls and emergency responses
