
A pair of Pella residents face felony drug charges for alleged distribution of methamphetamine. According to court records, 49-year-old Eric Keith Burkland and 52-year-old Kimberly Dawn Payne have each been charged with a controlled substance violation, a Class B felony, as well as a drug tax stamp violation, a Class D felony. On February 5th, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Pella Police Department conducted a narcotics search warrant at a home in the 300 block of Liberty Street. Police claim they found approximately 117 grams of methamphetamine belonging to Burkland and 46 grams attributed to Payne. Investigating officers claim Payne had communicated via cell phone about the distribution of the drugs and Burkland possessed a notebook with notes about drugs. Burkland’s initial appearance in court is scheduled today and Payne has pled not guilty to the charges.
