Emergency crews responded to a commercial structure fire at the 200 Block of N Third St. in Knoxville Friday evening.

On Friday at approximately 6:00 pm, the Knoxville Fire Department was dispatched for a commercial structure fire in a laundry facility. The Knoxville Fire Department responded with one Engine Company, one EMS Company, one Squad Company, and one Command Officer. When crews arrived on scene they found heavy smoke throughout the laundry facility. A working fire assignment was requested which brought one EMS Company from Pella EMS, one Engine Company from Knoxville Township Fire Department, and one Command Officer from Knoxville Township Fire Department. Crews were able to find a dryer that was on fire and extinguish the fire. Crews from all Companies worked to isolate the dryer that was on fire and check for extension. The building was ventilated. All crews cleared shortly after.

Due to customers inside the building calling 911 quickly the building only sustained damage to one dryer. The business remains open at this time.

The Knoxville Fire Department was assisted on scene by, Marion County Dispatch, Knoxville Police Department, Knoxville Rural Fire Department, Pella EMS, Mid-American Energy, and Alliant Energy.
