Jasper County Emergency Management Agency Director Jamey Robinson is commending the Lynnville-Sully School District and Sully Christian school for taking emergency preparedness seriously.
Thursday, lockdown drills were conducted at both schools by members of the Jasper and Mahaska County Sheriff’s Offices, Prairie City Police Department, Mahaska County Emergency Management, and the Iowa Department of Public Safety. Jasper County Emergency Management Agency Crisis K9 River was also part of the drills. Robinson says this type of training allows response coordination to be practiced, communication systems to be tested, and law enforcement officers from various agencies to familiarize themselves with the layout and access points at the schools. Jasper County Sheriff Brad Shutts also commended the Lynnville-Sully School District for working with his office on providing a Kindergarten through 12th grade School Resource Officer.
“An SRO is just not for security at schools. They are mentors and get to know the kids and have good relationships with them. They actually teach some classes. It’s a different perspective from what a teacher is maybe teaching. They often have real life experiences with some of the things they are talking to them about. We have seen nothing but fantastic support from the Lynnville-Sully School District on the position we have down there.”
The Lynnville-Sully School Resource Officer is Deputy TJ Decker.
