Four Newton wrestlers are headed to the Boys State Wrestling Tournament next week. Kent Montgomery took first place at 120 pounds at Saturday’s District Qualifying Meet at Iowa City High School. He won his Championship Match by fall in 2:41. Headed to state with second-place district finishes are Aiden Robson at 150 pounds and Lane Rozendaal at 165 pounds. Robson lost his Championship Match in a 16-4 Major Decision, while Rozendaal lost by Technical Fall. Nick Milburn at 215 pounds is the Cardinals’ fourth qualifier, after placing third. Just missing state wrestling appearances with 4th place finishes were Trevor Van Kley at 106 pounds, Zander Robson at 132 pounds, and Coleby Revell at 285 pounds. 

As a team, Newton finished fifth in the eight-team district with 114.5 points.

The 2026 Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 3A State Wrestling Championships will be held Wednesday through Saturday at the Wells Fargo Arena.
