Rachel Kacmarynski scored 21 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in just over three quarters of action as the Pella Christian girls basketball team routed Chariton 46-26 in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs Saturday night as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Kacmarynski had 15 points and 15 boards at the half, and post-mate Addie Van Arendonk had already scored 10 as the Eagles soared to a 32-11 lead at intermission.

“I was very excited with our effort and our energy. We came out and took care of business right away”, said head coach Jon Mumm. “That’s what we told the girls – ‘hey, let’s put ’em away right away, let’s get our intensity going, let’s get our press going’ – and the girls did a great job of taking care of business right from the tip.”

Pella Christian improves to 10-12 on the season and will play at Mid Prairie in a regional semifinal on Wednesday night, which can be heard on 92.1 KRLS.

The Eagle boys have a first round bye in the class 2A tournament that starts Monday night. They’ll find out whether they’re hosting Chariton or Albia in their playoff opener coming up on Thursday.
