For the 2nd straight season, Regan Roberts punched his ticket to the State Wrestling Meet with a runner-up finish at 285 pounds at the class 2A district at Benton Community on Saturday. Roberts easily won his quarterfinal match over Cain Frisch of Dike-New Hartford in a pin in just over a minute into the match. His semifinal match was a little more difficult but Roberts was able to get the win in another pin over Lakyr Peska of South Tama just :08 before the final whistle. Roberts fell lost to Lucas Feuerbach of Solon in the 1st place match but qualified for state on criteria as he would have been matched up in a wrestle back against Peska, who he defeated earlier in the day. Roberts told KNIA/KRLS Sports after his semifinal win, he knew he was good for the State Meet.
Roberts: “It feels good. I knew it was going to be tough, I lost in the finals, but that was OK. Has tough kids in the semis but I knew I was going to get it done.”
The Panthers had two other place winners with Hunter Lund at 120 pounds in 3rd and Carter Marshall in 4th at 132 pounds. Roberts will head to the State Meet this week.
