United Way of Jasper County’s free “Voices of Inspiration” will kick-off its third annual spring speakers’ series on Thursday, March 5th with Iowa State Fair Butter Cow Sculptor Sarah Pratt. United Way of Jasper County Executive Director Jessica Lowe Vokes says Pratt will speak at the Newton DMACC Auditorium at 6:30 pm that night.
“Sara has been doing the butter cow herself since 2006. Before that, she was an apprentice under Duffy Lyons, the lady who did it before, for ten to fifteen years. So she’s been dealing with butter for a while.”
“Voices of Inspiration” is a free speakers series that’s meant to inspire, motivate, and inform Jasper County residents. Lowe Vokes says the series aligns with the core mission of United Way of Jasper County, which is to uplift and empower the community, and promote life-long learning. The other spring speakers are NFL Referee Scott Helverson on March 12th, “Mind Meddler” Troy Peters on March 26th, animated film illustrator Adam Van Wyk on April 9th, and Iowa State Climatologist Dr. Justin Glisan on April 23rd.
Doors to the DMACC Auditorium on the Newton Campus will open at 6:00 pm each night with programs beginning at 6:30 pm. Free-will donations are accepted to help continue the speaker series.
