
PCM’s Tucker Wheeler and Kaliber Fry punched their ticket to the state wrestling tournament on Saturday at their district meet as the girls basketball team defeated Saydel in lopsided fashion in the opening round of regional play.
The PCM boys wrestling team competed at their Class 2A district meet hosted by Centerville on Saturday as Wheeler took first at 157 pounds and Fry placed second at 132 as they both earned trips back to the Iowa High School State Boys Wrestling Tournament. Wheeler is now a four time state qualifier for the Mustangs and is coming off a second place finish at the state meet last year as Fry also qualified for state last season. As a team at the district meet, the Mustangs placed fifth with a team score of 105.5. Jared Sutton and Landon Siedlecki fell just short of a trip to state as Sutton placed third at 144 pounds and Siedlecki placed third at 190. Complete results can be found here. The Iowa High School Boys State Wrestling Tournament will start on Wednesday at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines.
The girls basketball team opened Class 3A Region 6 play at home against Saydel. The Mustangs dominated the game from start to finish as they led 15-0 at the end of the first quarter and were on top 39-8 at the half. PCM continued their defensive dominance in the second half holding the Eagles to 11 points to earn a 59-19 win. PCM was led in scoring by Lila Milani who had 18 points off of six three point baskets. The Mustangs improve to 21-1 overall and will host Creston on Wednesday in the regional semifinals.
