The Newton Boys Basketball Team Won At Bondurant-Farrar Tuesday 

The Newton boys basketball team defeated Bondurant-Farrar Tuesday on the Bluejays’ home floor 80-66.

The Cardinals got out to a 23-18 lead after the first quarter behind 13 points from Isaiah Slaughter. Newton extended the lead to 46-31 at the half, and the teams played almost even the rest of the way. Slaughter finished with 21 points, while Grant Osby had 16, Brody Wobschall had 14, and Dawson Maki had 12. Newton is now 9-11 on the year and will host ADM to finish the regular season on Thursday.

Newton Girls Basketball Opens Playoffs at Bondurant-Farrar Tonight

The Newton girls basketball team tries to extend their season by another game with a win in the first round of the Class 4A Playoffs tonight. The 11-10 Newton girls host 10-12 Bondurant-Farrar, with the winner advancing to take on Carlisle on the road on Saturday. Both the Cardinals and Bluejays have averaged 42 points per game this season, and have identical effective field goal percentages of 40%. Both teams are also led in scoring by sophomores. Kaylee Hanson averages nine points per game for Bondurant-Farrar, while Newton’s Addyson Cibula has a 10.5 points per game average. The two teams also met before the season began, participating in an Achieve Scrimmage on November 20th at Bondurant-Farrar. Coverage of Newton’s home first round regional game against the Blue Jays can be found on the KRLS3 stream, with pregame beginning at 6:45 p.m.

Four Newton Wrestlers Hit The Mat At The Boys State Wrestling Tournament 

Four Newton wrestlers will participate in the 2026 Class 3A Boys State Wrestling Tournament at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines today. The four Cardinals advanced from Saturday’s District Qualifying Meet in Iowa City. 

Kent Montgomery was the District Champion at 120 pounds, and is seeded 5th in his weight class. Montgomery has a first round bye, before facing 4th seeded Kipton Lewis of Waverly-Shell Rock. Newton’s three other wrestlers have first round matches. Aiden Robson is the 17th seed at 150 pounds and will wrestle 16th seeded McCain Hewitt of Bondurant-Farrar. Lane Rozendaal is seeded 12th at 165 pounds, and will wrestle 21st seed Carson Wright of Marshalltown. At 215 pounds, 10th seeded Nick Milburn will take on 23rd seeded Kael Moore of Cedar Falls.
