The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 10 AM to 7 PM today for all of central Iowa. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. A sustained west wind 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph, with minimum relative humidity values of 12 to 22% will allow fires that do develop to spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
