Pella Christian Girls Basketball Continues Regional Action at Mid-Prairie Tonight

The Pella Christian girls basketball team’s season came to a close Wednesday night, as they fell to #12 Mid-Prairie 46-35 in the Class 3A Region 3 Semifinals.

The game was back and forth early, with the Eagles holding a narrow 11-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter and maintaining an 18-17 lead at halftime. The two teams continued to trade blows in the second half, but a 7-2 run to close the third quarter gave Mid-Prairie a lead they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way. Following a 21-point, 19-rebound effort in Pella Christian’s first postseason game, Rachel Kacmarynski ended a record-breaking year with 16 points and 15 rebounds. In her final game in an Eagles uniform, Addie Van Arendonk tied Kacmarynski for a game-high 16 points, while also grabbing five rebounds.

The Pella Christian girls end the season with an 10-13 overall record and graduate three seniors in Van Arendonk, Ava Breems, and Chloe Nikkel. 

Pella Christian Boys Basketball Begins Postseason Journey Tonight

Looking to reach the District Championship game for the tenth time in the last eleven years, the Pella Christian boys basketball team hosts Albia tonight in the Class 2A District 12 Semifinals. 

The 12-10 Eagles are coming off a first-round bye as the top-seed in the district, while the 9-12 Blue Demons earned a 58-50 victory over Chariton Monday in the first round. Tonight’s contest marks the second time in the last three years that Pella Christian and Albia have met in the district semifinals, with the Eagles picking up a 75-64 victory in the 2023-2024 postseason. The Blue Demons have been led on the season by Isaac Helm and Cole Wilson, who combine to average 34.6 of the team’s 61.1 points per game.
