A Bussey man who was originally sentenced to 10 years in prison for an April 2024 sex abuse case has been sentenced again this week in Marion County District Court.
On Thursday, 64-year-old Rory Alan Colyn was sentenced to his original term of up to ten years in prison after his guilty plea was refiled locally. He previously pleaded guilty in 2025 to two counts of Lascivious Acts with a Child, both class C felonies.
Colyn attempted to appeal his sentence to the Iowa Court of Appeals in October of 2025 and was not denying any wrong doing, but instead, arguing that a prison sentence was not appropriate. His appeal was partially accepted — namely, the requirement that he no longer has to attend a sex offender treatment program. In December, Colyn attempted an appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court, who sent the case back to the Court of Appeals, ending that process.
The Pella Police Department investigated a sex crimes report made by a juvenile, with the victim stating that she had been sexually assaulted on several occasions by Colyn, and Rory was alleged to have made admissions and statements that implicated him in committing the lascivious acts against the victim during a phone interview with law enforcement.
