Construction is ongoing for the expansion of Weiler’s manufacturing facility.
The expansion is a result of an IEDA High Quality Jobs award the company received last fall, along with rapid growth they have experienced since their inception 25 years ago. The project was awarded $250,000 in direct financial assistance and tax benefits through the HQJ program, which represents a $12.3 million capital investment and is expected to create 54 jobs, of which 49 are incentivized at a qualifying wage of $27.06 per hour. The 69,000 square foot expansion will be directly south of the current facility on lots 12, 13, and 14 of the Reimer subdivision.
Pat Weiler tells KNIA/KRLS that the expansion will allow his company to develop new products, include added storage space, and allow for extra capacity for plant equipment. Weiler says the expansion goes back to Weiler being able to hire good people and that he is pleased with what the City of Knoxville has done to bring more housing to the community.
“We like developing new products so this allows us to develop new product and give us more room to expand into so we will be starting on some new products but it all comes back to having good people and building good stuff. I’ve been encouraged by the City of Knoxville and Marion County in general of being more aggressive of adding more housing and more developments which gives us encouragement that we are going to be able to keep hiring more and more people.”
The manufacturing company, that specializes in road paver production started with just five employees in 2000, and has expanded over the last 25 years into a company and facility that is one of the top employers in Marion County and South Central Iowa.
