The Newton City Council added to the entertainment line-up for this year’s city celebration earlier this week. Newton Fest will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 12th and 13th. City staff recommended, and the city council unanimously approved adding a performance by the band Rhythmic Rewind. The group provides a throwback Rock ‘N Soul experience with music from Chicago, Santana, The Doobie Brothers, and Motown Artists. The city is spending $2,000 dollars from the Hotel/Motel Tax revenue for the performance at the Maytag Bowl on Saturday, June 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Last month, the Newton City Council approved a $7,500 contract for Midwest Inflatables of Ames to provide free family entertainment through a fun zone at Maytag Park from 12 to 4 p.m. on June 13th. City Hotel/Motel Tax will also cover that cost. Council members have also approved half-price single-day admission to Maytag Pool for the Saturday of Newton Fest. This reduction from $6 to $3 has occurred for the past three years.
