The Newton City Council has added to the entertainment line-up for this year’s city celebration. Newton Fest will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 12th and 13th. City staff recommended, and the city council unanimously approved adding a performance by the band Rhythmic Rewind. The group provides a throwback Rock ‘N Soul experience with music from Chicago, Santana, The Doobie Brothers, and Motown Artists. The city is spending $2,000 dollars from the Hotel/Motel Tax revenue for the performance at the Maytag Bowl on Saturday, June 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Last month, the Newton City Council approved a $7,500 contract for Midwest Inflatables of Ames to provide free family entertainment through a fun zone at Maytag Park from 12 to 4 p.m. on June 13th. City Hotel/Motel Tax will also cover that cost. Council members have also approved half-price single-day admission to Maytag Pool for the Saturday of Newton Fest. This reduction from $6 to $3 has occurred for the past three years.
