A 2026-2027 School Calendar that would begin Newton’s next school year on Tuesday, August 25th, will be considered by the Newton School Board on Monday night. The suggested calendar has winter break from Monday, December 21st through Friday, January 1st, 2027. Spring break would occur the week of March 15th, 2027, with the end of the school year on Thursday, May 27, 2027. Also on the regular meeting agenda is an update on the Little Hawkeye Conference by Newton Superintendent Tom Messinger. 

A school board work session on this year’s legislative session with State Representative Jon Dunwell, State Senator Ken Rozenboom, and Rural School Advocates of Iowa representative Dave Daughton will preceed Monday Night’s regular meeting at 5:30 p.m in the EJH Beard Administration Center at 1302 First Avenue West in Newton, with the regular Newton School Board Meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m.
