The Indianola boys basketball team’s 2025-2026 season has ended following a 72-67 loss to Iowa City Liberty in the Class 4A Region 3 Tournament.
The Indians got off to a quick 7-2 start fueled by a 33 point performance from Easton McGraw forcing an Iowa City Liberty timeout. After that, Lightning leading scorer Jerimiah Washpun got going with a few midrange jumpers along with two Asher Khan three pointers. After the first quarter, Indianola led 18-17.
In the second, the Lightning grabbed the lead and the teams went back and forth in the quarter. It was the Washpun and McGraw show as McGraw had 20 and Washpun had 15 at the break. At the half, Iowa City Liberty led 35-31.
The Lightning played consistently and maintained a steady lead on Indianola with the ability to drive to the basket and establish a midrange game. Meanwhile for the Indians, McGraw and George Blake kept Indianola in the game but were still fighting to come back.
Going into the fourth quarter, Iowa City Liberty led 49-43 and quickly escalated to a nine-point game. A few big time shots from both Kahn and Washput lifted Iowa City Liberty to victory despite a comeback attempt from Indianola. With the 72-67 win for the Lightning, they travel to Waukee Northwest Friday.
The Indians end their 2025-2026 season 12-10.
