Fourth-ranked Pella opened play in the class 3A boys basketball postseason with a convincing 81-41 victory over Fairfield last night as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Dutch continually attacked the basket, making 28 layups or dunks in the game, building a double digit lead by early in the second quarter and putting running clock on by the midway point of the second half. Everybody in uniform saw action, and senior reserve Curtis Wilkinson said that it was a nice start to what is hopefully a long postseason journey.
“We knew coming in that it might not be our highest level of competition, but we wanted to start out fast and keep playing our ball”, Wilkinson said. “Afterward the game in the locker room we were talking about how it was great win and now we’re focused on the next round and how we can keep getting better.”
Jack McGuire led all scorers with 18 points, Austin Schulte added 13 and Griffin Simpson chipped in 12.
The Dutch are 19-4 and advance to a second round home matchup with Washington on Thursday night.
