With their 65-59 victory over Grand View Christian Thursday night, the Pella Christian boys basketball team is set to square off with Class 2A #8 Union Community in the Substate Final on Saturday.

The meeting between the Eagles and the Knights will be the first contest between the two schools in the Bound era. In addition to no prior history between the two programs, Pella Christian and Union have played no common opponents over the last two seasons. Despite no recent history between the two schools, Eagles head coach Joe Steinkamp says they’ve had the opportunity to scout Union a few times to gain some insights into the challenge they face Saturday night.

“[Union has] A lot of really good players, a really senior dominant team and they got some good young kids too. So, a great pressure, man to man defensive team that’s just well coached. For us, we just want to keep this thing going. We’ll really dig in deeper here in the next few days.”

Pella Christian’s bid for a state tournament appearance Saturday night at Marshalltown High School begins at 7 pm, and coverage of the Substate Final against Union begins at 6:30 pm on 92.1 KRLS.
