Iowa State. Representative Brooke Boden has been working through the conclusion of the first funnel at the Iowa Legislation and one of the bills she’s actively working on is a bill to keep minors away from adult material in local libraries as much as possible. Boden says parents need to know what their children are checking out.

“That particular bill will lean more towards the parents having the authority to opt their children in or out of those options. It also talks about the library board moving to a little bit more of an advisory position.”

House File 2622 is under consideration, which would require public libraries to enact and enforce age-appropriate policies in order to qualify to receive public funds . Opponents of the measure argue it amounts to additional government control of libraries and censorship of authors.
